The Police Department offers Citizens the opportunity to learn about the department’s operations, laws, and the challenges officer’s face on a daily basis. A class is formed when the department reaches the number of applicants required to present a class. The program lasts approximately eight weeks, meets once a week, and can lead to volunteer work assisting the officers at the Police Department Substation, parades and local events.
What Is the Academy?
Fredericksburg Citizens interested in learning about their Police Department’s operations, and challenges the officer’s and our city face on a daily basis.
The Citizens' Academy enhances the positive relations between the Police Department and the community through education. The goals are to create a growing nucleus of responsible, well informed citizens who have the potential of influencing public opinions about police services. Citizens will gain an appreciation of problems and challenges facing law enforcement and have an opportunity to offer comments and ideas regarding solutions.
To join the academy, complete an application and submit it to the Law Enforcement Center, 1601 East Main Street.
