DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS February 15 - 19, 2010 EMERGENCY SERVICES John Culpepper reports for the week of February 14 - 20, 2010, the EMS reports 51 calls for the week. EMS responded to a male that had fallen on Washington Street. The man was taken from the scene to University Hospital for a possible spinal injury since aircraft was unable to fly due to the weather. A caller reported a fall from seven feet on FM 2093. A male patient was found with facial injuries and was taken to the helipad at HCMH to be taken to a trauma center in San Antonio. There was a minor accident on N. Washington Street and E. Travis. Both persons refused treatment at the scene. EMS did five transfers to area hospitals for care not available at HCMH. EMS did seven public assists. The Fire Department reported seven calls for the week. Four calls occurred in the County, all of which were small grass fires. Three calls occurred in the City. A caller reported smoke in a residence on N. Bowie Street. Upon arrival, a small fire was found in a trash can. The residence was ventilated. There was a possible kitchen fire on Persimmon Court. Ventilation was performed due to a stove fire. EMS requested assistance with a minor accident on E. Travis Street and N. Washington. PARK DEPARTMENT Larry Kolmeier reports the crew cleaned and set up the Pioneer Pavilion and performed routine cleaning and maintenance of the various facilities during the reporting period. The crew installed an irrigation system on the practice field at Lady Bird Park. Equipment was serviced and repaired during the week. The crew assisted the wireless internet representative install a new antenna. The crew attended the safety meeting, and two men attended a continuing education class for the spraying licenses. Plans for next week are to work on ballfields, and perform routine maintenance and operations. Denis “Kat” Kaderli reports 209 camping nights were recorded during the reporting period of February 15th – 21st. GOLF DEPARTMENT Brian Roeder reported 0 gallons of effluent were used for irrigation on the course during the reporting period. The crew continued rebuilding mowers and servicing golf. The tee boxes were reseeded. Routine maintenance of the course, grounds and equipment was done throughout the week as well as routine mowing and trimming. Plans for next week are to fertilize the tees and greens; topdress the greens; and, perform routine operations. STREET DEPARTMENT Mike Klein reports the chipper crew processed 4.18 tons of debris and picked up brush from various areas and the recycle center with a truck and loader. The crew began reworking alleys in Sections 1, 2 and 3. The ROW’s were trimmed, cut out and applied with base. Work in the bar ditch along Pyka Road was completed. The ROW was cut out for a new curb installation at Shaw and Silver Maple. The patch crew repaired pot holes in streets on the south side of Main Street. The sign crew replaced faded signs in various locations and continued checking old street signs for replacement. The ROW crew mowed and trimmed in various locations. The mechanics are busy with repairs to equipment and vehicles for the various departments. Plans for next week are to chip; patch pot holes in streets on the north side of Main Street; begin sweeping streets in Section 1; work on replacing signs; begin reworking alleys in Section 4; and, perform routine operations and maintenance. WATER & WASTEWATER DEPARTMENTS Tony Hawley reports one crew replaced a fire hydrant at N. Llano and E. Hackberry, and one was repaired in the 100 block of E. Ufer. A sewer tap was installed at 602 N. Lincoln. The chlorine line at the old South Heights Booster Station pump house was disconnected. A water leak was repaired at 103 S. Columbus. The master meter was replaced on the Boerner #3 well, and brush was hauled away from the Knauth property. The Goehmann Lane pump station was painted. Water and sewer taps were installed at 576 Airport Road. Construction began on a sewer main on Hill Street. The sand trap at the warehouse was cleaned. Routine well and pump checks were performed throughout the week as well as lift station checks. J. Horry reports 7,152,400 gallons of effluent were sent to the creek; 750,930 gallons of effluent were pumped to the pond; 0 gal1ons of effluent were pumped to the Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course; 0 gallons of effluent were pumped to Boot Ranch; and, 0 gallons of effluent was used on the golf course for irrigation. Routine maintenance was done around the plant. Plans for next week are to replace piping and the master meter at Boerner #4; replace a sewer tap at 107 Goehmann Lane; install water and sewer taps at 510 and 572 Airport Road; continue construction on the sewer main on Hill Street; perform property maintenance at the Knauth property and Windcrest pump stations; continue sewer main and lift station maintenance at various locations; perform routine well and pump checks; and, perform daily routine maintenance and operations. ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT Lee Stubblefield reports the crew installed conduit at 210 Westmoor. Work resumed on the upgrade project on Beverly Drive. Work orders included 2 new services, 1 temporary service, 10 street light orders, 2 trouble calls and 12 underground line locates. Plans for next week are to work on the Beverly Drive upgrade project and perform routine operations. SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT Mike Hartmann reported Sunbright made their routine pick ups at the Recycling Center. The sanitation crew picked up debris along the ROW’s. Pit equipment was serviced during the week. A storm water berm was built. Normal operations were performed by the sanitation, recycling and landfill crews. GOLF PRO Shelly Ross reports 143 guests and 493 members, totaling 636 golfers, played the course during the reporting period of February 12th – February 18th. POLICE DEPARTMENT Paul Oestreich reports for the week of February 15, 2010 through February 21, 2010 the Police Department responded to 148 calls for service. Of the eleven accidents reported all were classified as minor. Officers investigated a burglary of a business. After investigation, the case was classified as unfounded. Two cases of a stolen vehicle were reported, both vehicles were located. Officers investigated seven theft complaints for the week. Two cases of theft of service were reported. A gas drive off was reported, the customer was located and returned to pay for the fuel purchased. A complainant reported forged prescriptions. Two purses were reported stolen from a vehicle. Shoplifting was reported at a local convenience store. One case of theft was classified as unfounded. The Police Department arrested a total of 10 individuals during this period for the following offenses:
Special Services reported one twelve year old female and one thirteen year old female cited for Disorderly Conduct. ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT - February 15th thru February 19th, 2010 Projects under review include: - Subdivision Plat – Robert & Carol Jeannie Machicek Subdivision – 2nd review (Minor Plat) - Yendora Estates – Construction Plans (1st Review) - Peach Ridge Subdivision – P&Z item for 3/3/2010 meeting Review comments on the 2nd review of construction plans for Friendship Village were sent back to the developer and project engineer. The department has started advertising for an Assistant City Engineer. The ad can be found on the City’s website. www.fbgtx.org The department is working with the Electric Department on the development of a plan to install underground electric behind the businesses in the 300 block of E. Main Street on the north side of Main Street. Easements will be needed. The department continued the survey work for the Morning Glory Drive improvements project. The department is also working on a space planning project for the department’s work / office areas. A preliminary plan has been given to Gary Neffendorf for review. A letter was sent to IESI to advise them of getting into compliance with the City’s garbage collection ordinance. HCMH is seeking a Certificate of Occupancy for 816 Reuben Street. An inspection of the civil construction has been done. The department will be following up with HCMH next week once the punch list has been completed. Curbs were staked in various locations. Several meetings with citizens, contractors, engineers, and developers took place. The department also did field evaluations of several of the ongoing projects.
