DEPARTMENT REPORT AUGUST 11 - 15, 2008 EMERGENCY SERVICES Wallace Britton reports the EMS responded to 36 calls. EMS responded to a report of an unconscious male at the Old Fair Park Baseball Fields. Upon arrival, they found a 44 year old unconscious male. The man had been huffing chemicals from a spray can while riding his bike. He was taken to the helipad at HCMH, and airlifted to Wilford Hall for further treatment. There was a one car rollover accident on the Old San Antonio Road. The female driver (lone occupant) was taken to HCMH with head and abdominal pain. EMS did two out-of-town transfers to area hospitals for care not available at HCMH. Two public assists were also performed. The Fire Department reported seven calls for the week, all of which occurred in the County. There were five grass fires reported. One fire on Grona Schneider Road burned approximately three hundred acres. Another on Kott Road burned thirty acres. A vehicle was reported on fire on Highway 290 W. EMS requested assistance with a one car roll over accident on the Old San Antonio Road. PARK DEPARTMENT Larry Kolmeier reports the crew performed routine cleaning and maintenance of the various facilities. The grounds at the various facilities were mowed and trimmed. The crew began cleaning up around the maintenance shop. Plumbing fixtures were repaired at Lady Bird Park. Equipment was serviced during the week. Weeds were sprayed on the ballfields and on the Main Street corners. Plans for next week are to work on the project list, and perform routine maintenance and operations. Nehi Pyka reports 68 camping nights were recorded during the reporting period. GOLF DEPARTMENT Brian Roeder reported a total of 2,299,000 gallons of effluent were used for irrigation during the reporting period. The crew attended the safety meeting on Wednesday. The crew began troubleshooting the irrigation system on the course following the storm. Equipment was serviced in preparation for venting the greens. Routine maintenance of the course, grounds and equipment was done throughout the week as well as routine mowing and trimming. Plans for next week are to vent the greens, and perform routine operations. STREET DEPARTMENT Mike Klein reports the chipper crew processed 5.49 tons of debris during the reporting period, and hauled away debris left at the recycling center. Crews cleaned, patched and paved streets in Section 1 along E. San Antonio, Olive and Pear Streets, and W. Ufer, W. Creek and S. Edison Streets in Section 2. The right-of-way crew continued mowing and treating weeds in various locations. The mechanics are busy with repairs for the various departments. Plans for next week are to chip; mow and treat weeds in the ROW; patch in various locations; get signs ready for street closing for the fair parade; and, perform routine operations and maintenance. WATER & WASTEWATER DEPARTMENTS Tony Hawley reported a 1" water service was installed at 306 S. Columbus Crews continued on the meter change out for the AMR project. A 12" water main leak was repaired in the 1000 block of Ave A. A water main leak was repaired in the 500 block of S. Olive. Routine maintenance and operations were performed during the reporting period. J. Horry reports 6,171,700 gallons of effluent were sent to the creek; 2,130,900 gallons of effluent were pumped to the pond; 670,000 gallons of effluent was pumped to the golf course; and, 2,299,000 gallons of effluent were used for irrigation on the course. Routine maintenance was done around the plant. Plans for next week are to install water and sewer taps at 306 S. Columbus; perform routine sewer main and lift station maintenance; continue meter change outs for the AMR project; and, perform daily routine maintenance and operations. ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT Lee Stubblefield reports the crew installed a 30' pole and new service at 407 Whitney. Meters were changed out the AMR project. The C/T metering was replaced at St. Mary’s School. The crew performed property maintenance during the week. Work orders included 1 new service installation, 1 temporary service, 4 street light repairs, 2 trouble calls, and 5 underground line locates. Plans for next week are to continue work on the AMR meter change out project, and perform routine operations. SOLID WASTE DEPARTMENT Mike Hartmann reported Sunbright made their routine pick ups at the Recycling Center. The sanitation crew picked up debris along the ROW’s. The grounds at the landfill were mowed and trimmed. Ten new dumpsters were picked up this week. Normal operations were performed by the sanitation, recycling and landfill crews. GOLF PRO Shelly Ross reports 425 guests and 299 members, totaling 724 golfers played the course during the reporting period of August 8th - 14th. POLICE DEPARTMENT Paul Oestreich reports for the week of August 11th - 17th, the department responded to 150 calls for service. Included in these calls were 32 citizen assists, which include vehicle unlocks and welfare concerns, and 7 arrests. Of the ten accidents reported nine were classified as minor with one being classified as major. Officers were dispatched to1600 East Main for a single car accident. One passenger was transported to Hill Country Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. Officers responded to seven theft complaints for the week. A juvenile was caught by a witness while attempting to steal a bicycle parked behind a local restaurant. The victim did not wish to press charges. A complainant reported their IRS check missing and filed a report for information purposes. A drive thru restaurant on Main Street reported a customer leaving after receiving their unpaid meal. Urns and greenery were reported stolen from a store on Main Street and a Lawn Mower was reported stolen from a business on Highway 290 East. Decorative lawn ornaments were stolen from a lot in town. One case of theft is now classified as unfounded. The Police Department arrested a total of 7 individuals during this period for the following offenses:
