Dan Mittel Councilman Dan Mittel is currently serving his third term on the council. He is a graduate of the University of Texas is Austin earning a BBA in Accounting with minors in Math and Business Law. After graduation, Dan was employed as the comptroller of Mission Valley Mills in New Braunfels for 15 years. In 1979, he was hired by Sunday House Foods and moved his wife and two young daughters to Fredericksburg. He served as Vice President of Finance until 2000 when the plant was liquidated because of a fire that destroyed the facility. Dan & his wife Donna own Gastehaus Schmidt Reservation Service at 231 West Main. Being an active part of the community has always been important to Dan. In the public sector, he served as president of the Hill Country Memorial Hospital system board, president of the Kiwanis club, chairman of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, president of the Texas Exes, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, and two terms on the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, also serving one term as president. In addition, he is currently the treasurer of the Pedernales Creative Arts Alliance. In addition to the three terms as City Councilman, Dan served 8 years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, was elected to the Charter Writing Commission, appointed to the Impact Fee study committee, is the council representative on the Gillespie County Health Board and was picked from the council as a representative to formulate the just completed 2005 Comprehensive Plan for Fredericksburg. He also is a 2002 Leadership Class graduate. For Dan it has been a great pleasure to live in a community that has many qualities we are all proud of, including an energizing mix of natives and newcomers, some of the lowest tax and utility rates in the state, excellent city staff, outstanding volunteer fire department, low crime rate, low unemployment rate and a first rate medical community. Dan’s plan for the future is to reduce risks associated with truck traffic, assure that our children will have access to continuing education at reasonable cost, initiate quality of life enhancements as our population grows and ages, continue cooperative efforts by the city with the county officials, school districts and the medical community. He also strives to maintain the historic charm and clean atmosphere of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. |
