Director of Parks & Recreation - Jimmy Alexander

The Director of Parks & Recreation directs and develops long- and short-range plans for department operations and capital improvements. Establishes and implements departmental rules, regulations, work priorities, and work methods. Authorizes and approves the hiring, assignment, evaluation of employees in the department, and initiates action as appropriate. Directs efforts to secure available grant monies for various department facilities and programs. Directs the planning and development of new site facilities, including park areas, playgrounds, and recreational buildings. Coordinates the activities of the department with programs of other local, state, federal, and private agencies involved in recreation. Plans, coordinates, and directs the operation and maintenance of various facilities of the department, including parks, golf courses, swimming pools, and playgrounds. Prepares and administers annual budget.  Attends and participates in public functions and meetings to present, explain, and promote departmental programs. Prepares releases for the general public and media to promote departmental activities. Prepares regular and special reports. Studies the needs of the community in relation to parks, golf and recreation programs, and develops services and facilities. Maintains effective communications throughout the department, with public and with City officials. Develops departmental safety rules and regulations. Ensures and encourages compliance with city adopted safety policies and procedures. Performs related duties as needed or assigned.
