Tatsch House

The Tatsch House is the City of Fredericksburg’s most recent addition to event facilities. Whether you are planning a family reunion, rehearsal dinner, meeting, shower, or just about any other event . . . this could be the perfect site! With renovations completed in 1999, The Tatsch House now offers a comfortable atmosphere in an ideal location.

Born in Koblenz, Germany, in 1841, Peter John Tatsch immigrated to Texas with his parents in 1853. Living in the Live Oak community, Peter met and married Conradina Ernst. Peter built their home out of the native limestone rock which remains as a portion of the current structure. After beginning their family together, Conradina and one of their infant children passed away in 1871. Twelve years later, Peter remarried Juliana Baethge. Their family grew with the births of nine more children. With Peter and Juliana and eleven children in one home, the house expanded, with their final addition being made to the East side of the home. When Texas seceded from the Union, Peter did not want to bear arms against the Union and left home to serve in the Union Army. Their farm, which comprises the Park and a portion of the County airport, remained in the Tatsch family until 1952. At that time, the land was sold to the County and became known as Oakcrest Park. A picture of Peter and Juliana Tatsch and their family is on display at the entrance to The Tatsch House.

The Tatsch House is designed for gatherings of 60 to 80 people (indoors). Available for $100, The Tatsch House has a full kitchen and tables and chairs included in the rental fee. In addition to the indoor facilities, The Tatsch House includes an outdoor fenced-in patio.

For reservation information, call 830/997-4202.
