Previously, the City of Fredericksburg’s Street Sweeping Program involved street sweeping operations in the downtown and other high-traffic areas twice per week, usually in the early morning hours, in an effort to clean gutters and prevent debris and other contaminants from reaching creeks and waterways. Additional residential streets are also swept after large storm events and as part of the City’s annual paving program, as needed.
As part of ongoing efforts to provide safe and clean roadways for all users, including both vehicular and non-vehicular traffic, the City has modified its Street Sweeping Program to include ALL City-maintained streets. This program is administered by the Street and Stormwater/Vegetation Management Divisions. This program has been added to the list of services already provided by the City including residential curbside brush chipping and leaf collection programs. Crews plan to sweep each City-maintained street three or four times per year.
Upcoming street sweeping operations will take place beginning Monday, October 10, 2022, just prior to the start of the Fall-Winter Leaf Collection Program.
