Council Member Gary Neffendorf

Raised on a small farm outside Fredericksburg, I was instilled with values that have always been the hallmark of the citizens of Fredericksburg - the importance of hard work, compassion for neighbors, fiscal responsibility, and service to the community, to name a few.

After graduating from the University of Texas in 1973 with a BBA in accounting, my career began with the City of Fredericksburg as Assistant Finance Director. Shortly thereafter, I was promoted to Director of Finance and worked in that position for 15 years. In 1988, I was appointed the City Administrator. After the Home Rule Charter was passed in 1991, I was appointed Fredericksburg's first City Manager, a position I held until my retirement in 2011.

Currently, I am the Controller at the Admiral Nimitz Foundation. During the past 40 years, I have served our community on various boards, including the Chamber of Commerce, Convention and Visitor Bureau, Economic Development Commission, and Gillespie Central Appraisal District. In 2012 I was honored to be awarded Lifetime Member status by the Texas City Manager Association and Outstanding Public Servant by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce.

My wife, Jenny, is a local realtor and we have three grown children - Melissa, Marshall and Jordan. I am blessed that I have been able to live, work, and raise my family in Fredericksburg. I ran for City Council because I want to continue to serve. Even though I retired from a job after 38 years, I did not retire from public service. The City Charter defines the role of the City Council and with decades of experience working with and for City Councils, I believe I am uniquely qualified to fill that role. I offer a historical perspective and municipal financial expertise to help deal with current issues, including traffic, water, sewer, and a comprehensive plan update.

Fredericksburg is the greatest town. We must continue to hold on to our historical values while moving forward.
