Council Member Jerry Luckenbach

Jerry Luckenbach has a lifelong relationship with the community.  One grandfather was a member of the local police force, the other was a supervisor on the railroad that used to run from Fredericksburg to San Antonio.  His father was a medic during the invasion of Iwo Jima; Jerry donated his father's medical kit and other government issued personal supplies from WWII to the Nimitz Museum.

Jerry graduated from San Angelo State University and joined the family business, Knopp Nursing Homes.  He worked with his family to grow from one facility to four facilities and a retirement center complex, while also running the family ranch operation.

Married and father of two children, now grown, he was President of the Lion's Club and Youth Softball Association, worked on the City Charter Committee, and through his business, sponsored the Austin 300 Bike Rally, organizing the overnight rest stop in Fredericksburg to raise funds for MS several years in a row, until the route was changed. He also sponsored the Relay for Life event for many years.

Jerry has also served on the Bethany Church Council and the City Council for eight years. During these eight years, many important infrastructure projects were completed and planned.  He also served as the council liaison with the Chamber of Commerce.

After researching some of the current issues facing the City, Jerry decided to run for City Council and has been elected to serve the City once again.  While Fredericksburg is experiencing desirable growth, Jerry feels that careful, considerate planning is necessary to maintain the unique character of our community and high quality of life, which is in danger of being lost in the shuffle of politics and self-interest.  Jerry is committed to working for the best interests of the community as a whole.
