Fredericksburg, Texas – The City of Fredericksburg recently welcomed Melinda Uriegas as Interim City Secretary. She started her duties on Wednesday, April 10, and will continue to serve until a permanent City Secretary is hired.
Uriegas comes to Fredericksburg, after spending more than 20 years as Assistant City Clerk with the City of San Antonio. In that position, she handled elections, records management and ensured compliance with federal, state and municipal requirements.
“I'm excited to start a new career journey and look forward to working with the City of Fredericksburg,” Uriegas said.
Several large projects will be Uriegas’ focus during her time in Fredericksburg, including the May 4 General and Special Elections.
Uriegas takes over for Assistant City Manager Garret Bonn, who filled the interim roll, after City Secretary Shelley Goodwin left the organization at the end of March to take a similar position in Rockport, Texas.
The City Secretary is an officer of the City, appointed by the City Manager. It is a statutory position required by State Law and the City Charter. The position is tasked with connecting the public with the legislative process through attending and preparing official minutes of City Council meetings, serving as the City's Election Administrator, and acting as the Records Management Officer for the City.
